interview

stlworkingmom asked for people to be interviewed. i volunteered.

1. Did you have a good childhood? (start with the Freud)
yes. i had a very good childhood. i was raised in fenton and spent my time playing kick the can outside with the neighborhood kids and riding my bike without using my hands. My parents (who are still happily married) took my sister and i on a summer vacation every year, so i've seen most of the continental united states. its weird that i've seen so much of the country, but my parents rarely took us out of fenton when we were younger. as soon as i turned 16, i started to discover "the city." my husband always teases me that i was raised in st. louis, he was raised two hours away, and he knows more than i do about the downtown area. i have always been "daddy's little girl." I think my choice in husband is a little freudian because my sister is always telling me how much michael and my dad are similar.

2. What was the best part of your wedding?
i'm not sure i can choose just one. i was so happy that day. i remember walking down the aisle with my dad and telling myself stop crying. why are you crying? what is wrong with you? you dont cry! when my dad and i reached michael i was a mess. then my dad sort of tripped over the train of my dress when he walked behind me. when michael finally took my hand, he said "pull yourself together." in a joking way. i smiled. i dont think i will ever forget looking at him at that moment and loving him so much. its really ironic that i was the one bawling at our wedding because normally, he is the emotional one in the relationship, while i'm pretty steady with my emotions.

3. In the future, do you think you’ll be a working mom, stay at home mom, a nonmom or other?
Right now, I plan on working. maybe not full time, but at least part time while the kids are younger, so that i can always have my foot in the door, or at least the industry. (yes, we will have kids. i've wanted kids since i can remember. i'm ready now and i think michael could be, but i know that "we" are not ready.)

4. Where do you see yourself in five years? (the interview question)
If we follow the plan set right now, I will hopefully be working at some non-profit organization doing PR in the St. Louis area. If i had my first choice, I'd love to go back to St. Johns, but I know that office is not really growing and i really enjoy being the boss, so i'd have to wait for bill to retire. I absolutely love what i do here, so i wouldnt mind working at another college either. I would like to start having kids now, if we havent already. right now the plan is when we are 29, so that's 4 years. i know auntie em would like it to be sooner, but i still have 2 more years of school first, then i'd like to save and plan for a while.

5. Do you think you will move to another state or part of the country?
not really. i think we are fairly rooted in the midwest. i like memphis and nashville, and i wouldnt mind living near either of those cities, but ultimately, i think that michael and i will stay within a few hours of our families because they are both so important to us.

Now it’s someone else’s turn to play if they wish: Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.” I will respond by asking you five questions in the comments here on this post so check back here. I get to pick the questions. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
