House talk... get used to it.

On Friday, we went up to STL and started looking for houses. It's strange because I do not consider us poor. I consider us working middle-class, but not upper middle class. Why is it that every house we looked at was either a piece of crap (and totally misleading on the internet but that's a whole other story) or in a really shitty neighborhood?? I don't think our budget is too low. We really do not want to buy any more than we can afford to though. We like the way we live and would prefer not to go into debt. So because houses are "on sale" right now, I guess I figured it would be pretty easy for us to find what we are looking for.

Too many people out there our age are buying houses that they cannot afford and then barely scrape by the payments, and I think we've all read about all the foreclosures going on all over the country. Hubby and I do not want to be part of that statistic.

    Where are you looking?

Both sides of the river - south county in MO, fairview heights, collinsville in IL - I'm trying to stay close enough to possibly take the Metro to work, or near the interstate if I'm going to drive.

I think you're really smart to not go into big debt on a house. Too many things can go wrong. Good luck on your search!
